STEMXplore is a full-spectrum robotics and coding club serving families across Ottawa — including Stittsville, Kanata, Barrhaven, Nepean, Bells Corners and beyond. Our lead instructor has spent more than a decade in robotics engineering and STEM curriculum design, and has mentored international competition teams. Everything we do is in-person, small-group, and built around a real progressive curriculum, not a one-off "make and take" workshop.
Whether your child is five and has never touched a robot, or fourteen and preparing for a national competition, STEMXplore has a track that fits.
We deliberately use the same robotics platforms that appear in FIRST LEGO League, the World Robot Olympiad and university intro-to-robotics courses. Skills transfer directly into school competitions and, eventually, engineering programs.
Our LEGO track covers WeDo / SPIKE Essential (ages 5–7), SPIKE Prime (ages 8–12) and MINDSTORMS EV3 (ages 10–14). This is the most popular entry point for Ottawa families.
SPIKE Prime is the current standard for FIRST LEGO League. Kids in our SPIKE program build competition drivetrains, run FLL missions on real practice mats, and learn the strategy side of competitive robotics.
For families who want AI-flavoured robotics without a full laptop rig, mBot2 and Quarky are our go-to platforms. Kids explore colour tracking, line following, face detection and voice commands.
Our advanced students train year-round for the World Robot Olympiad and FIRST LEGO League. Preparation covers build, code, strategy, judging interviews and game analysis.
Visual block coding for ages 5–10. Kids build games, animated stories and small apps while internalising the core concepts every programmer eventually needs: sequence, loops, events, conditionals, variables.
Text-based programming for ages 10–13. Kids start with turtle graphics, move to text games, and end with data structures, functions and classes — all anchored to projects they chose.
Older students design and build real mobile apps using MIT App Inventor and Thunkable, learning UI/UX fundamentals along the way.
Our AI unit demystifies machine learning: image classification, natural language basics and simple neural networks — using tools designed specifically for young learners.
Our studio is located in Stittsville and serves the wider Ottawa area — most notably Stittsville, Kanata, Barrhaven, Nepean, Bells Corners, Richmond and the western OCDSB / OCSB catchments. If you are inside a 20-minute drive of Kanata Centrum, chances are we already work with families from your neighbourhood.
STEMXplore runs full-day camps whenever Ottawa's public and Catholic schools close — from OCDSB / OCSB PD Days to March Break and Summer. Camp themes rotate through LEGO Robotics Bootcamp, Mission Mars with EV3, Scratch Game Studio, Python Bootcamp, App Studio, AI for Kids, and a dedicated WRO / FLL intensive. Five is the youngest age we recommend. At that age, kids start with our LEGO WeDo / SPIKE Essential group where the emphasis is on story-driven builds, motors and simple sensors.
Yes. Our WRO / FLL competition training track is available to intermediate and advanced students. Our lead coach has mentored international teams and multiple regional qualifiers.
Yes — our classes are co-ed. In practice we take deliberate steps to keep our environment welcoming to girls, including balanced group formation and role models.
